I had dinner with another handbag designer while in LA last month. It was fun comparing notes and learning about Nancy Gale’s journey to create the handbag collection JAMAH. Nancy does a lot of mentoring and she was telling me that students come to her for guidance, asking how they can become successful like her. She told me she was encouraging them to find THEIR own way and that her path to success is not the only way of doing things. Of course, that really resonated with me. We all have our own path to carve and there is no one “right way” nor is it anyone’s responsiblitiy but our own to have a successful life.

A few days later I listened to Darren Hardy, of Success magazine, speak to the idea that if you have not achieved your dreams it is “Your Own Dam Fault!” It was edgy, and I really appreciated what he had to say! We all hold the power to achieve our goals and make our dreams a reality — believing that it is going to take some outside force to make your dreams come true is placing all the power in someone’s else hands.

It is easy to get into whiney-victim mode when we don’t take responsiblity for our own life. I wasn’t born into a wealthy family. _______ x is hindering me. I don’t have the right educational background or resources. I don’t have any time. I am so exhausted by the end of the day. Someone else said to do it this way and it is NOT working!!! The excuses are endless and so are the millions of miles you are adding to achieving your goals, if, you stay STUCK in these limiting stories.

They say there is no magic pill to achieving success. However, I think there is!

It is called HARD work, staying focused, and having the tenacity to go the distance. You ARE the magic pill. It is going to take YOU to make those dreams a reality, and achieve your biggest, craziest, most far-fetched goals. Stop placing the magic in someone else’s hands. You hold the magic wand and you can wave it in any direction you desire.

Of course, just because you wave the magic wand does not mean everything instantly and brilliantly falls into place. Patience, passion and knowing your true north’s purpose are absolutely necessary in getting to where you want to go. Achieving your dreams is going to take time, a lot of foundational work, and a determination to see your vision through some really grueling and gritty moments.

A reporter once said to “Wow, it sounds like things just happen for you.” I was a little taken a back! Yes, things do happen for me, and I am extremely grateful for every door that has ever been opened for me. However, I have poured my heart and soul into building this brand “to make those things happen”. And even when doors did open for me, I still had to be the one to step through that door and grab the opportunity!

Dreams delivered on a silver platter is not reality (sorry Bravo TV is doing all of us a disservice in projecting a reality that is NOT real!) And even if it happened Real Housewives of Beverly Hills style, it would not be very rewarding.

You have to be willing to show up and play the game for things to happen. You have to be vulnerable and really let your authentic-self shine through. You have to have a curiosity and continually follow that curiosity to wherever she leads you. You have to be willing to fall down, really muck up your face, and be okay with it. You have to be willing to pour a lot of hard work into something, and then never have it see the light of day, and then being willing to do it all over again.

So next time you are frustrated that you are not achieving your goals or seeing your dreams come true, stop and ask who the magical elixir is!? You are! You are the catalyst! You are the one who is going to make things happen! Only you can create what you want to create. NO ONE ELSE CAN DO IT FOR YOU!

So here is to being unstoppable. Here is to grabbing that magic wand and pointing it in the direction of your true north and letting it pull you forward until you reach your dream destination. Here is to creating the magical life you want!
